The MSI Sonic Red switches are linear. These switches do not need to be reset above the perceptible trip position, so players who frequently use fast double or triple keystrokes will appreciate their greater speed. With linear-type switches, i.e., during the keystroke, there is no additional resistance that allows you to feel the moment when the switch is actuated. The smooth travel of these switches also means that they are rather quiet.

Compared to the most known MX Cherry Red, they have a smaller operating force (35 g, not 45.88 g), slightly lower pre-travel (1.9 mm vs 2.0 mm), and the same total travel of 4 mm. MSI indicates that MSI Sonic Red is designed to make gaming history while elevating user experience with a lightweight split-second feature.

The keycaps are made of ABS, which is less reliable/resistant than the PBT, and the per-key RGB backlighting makes it look good.
