The router's rear panel features four 1Gbps Ethernet ports, a fifth 2.5Gbps Ethernet port, a reset button, a USB 3.0 Type A port, a power button, and a DC power jack for the transformer. The transformer comes with sockets for a European or UK plug, as well as a mains cable.

The top of the router contains LAN activity LED indicators, power and internet indicators, a WPS button, and buttons for turning LEDs and Wi-Fi on and off. Additionally, there is a backlit Dragon Shield button for selecting preset QoS modes, which changes color depending on the active mode. Starting from the far left, a reset button is followed by four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and the 2.5Gbit Ethernet WAN port. Interestingly, LAN Port 1 can also be used for the WAN, freeing up the 2.5Gbit for connecting a high-bandwidth networked device, such as a NAS drive or uplink to another networking switch.

The back of the router has a 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN port, a 1Gbps WAN/LAN port, three 1Gbps LAN ports, a USB 3.0 port, a reset button, a power button, and a power jack. The router uses special heat pipes and heat sinks, as well as cooling vents, to regulate the temperature of its internal components, which include a 1.8GHz CPU, 256MB of flash memory, 512MB of DDR4 memory, and the Wi-Fi 6E circuitry.

The RadiX AXE6600 device features a row of subtle lights and buttons integrated at the top near the rear, which may go unnoticed when the router is off. The lights are specifically designed to indicate the status of the four LAN and single broadband WAN ports, whereas the buttons are responsible for turning the LED lighting off and on, enabling or disabling the WiFi radios, and calling up the WPS automated setup function. It is worth noting that the RadiX AXE6600 is the first router to use heat pipes for cooling.

The USB port, labelled 3.0, now known as USB 3.2 Gen 1, is situated next and delivers a theoretical 5Gbits/sec bandwidth. The USB port can be utilized for sharing storage. Next along the line is a physical on/off switch and the power connection.

Overall, the design of the RadiX AXE6600 is very decent, and unique is the lighting on the antennae. It is also commendable to have a 2.5Gbits/sec WAN port. The device's build feels robust. All in all, MSI has done a satisfactory job with the RadiX AXE6600.
