MSI Clutch GM70 - Features + Specifications

On the surface, this mouse's specs look very promising as to their ability to provide a premium user experience. Below are the summarised key features of the GM70 mouse (this is taken directly from the GM70's product page, linked here):

  • Fully Customizable Look + Feel.
  • Experience incredible accuracy with the PixArt PMW3360 optical gaming sensor.
  • Choose from millions of colors with RGB Mystic Light.
  • Fine-tune detailed settings with Gaming Center.
  • Use the Clutch GM70 wired (3000Hz Polling Rate) or wireless (1000Hz Polling Rate)
  • Features special OMRON switches rated for over 50 million clicks
  • Comes fully geared up with all accessories and carry pouch in the box

Many a box is ticked, so MSI is off to a solid start. Connectivity is also a bonus to those looking for a high-end wireless mouse, and it - potentially - offers some competition to the industry giants like Logitech, who have been gracing us with gaming orientated mice for a lot longer than I have been active in the PC gaming and hardware space. Wireless mice seem to be on the rise of late, and I would attribute this to the desire (of those who can afford it) for a 'clean' looking gaming setup, as well as knowing that their mouse is well able to perform up there with the best of their wired cousins. Design wise, MSI have gone with a very 'aggressive' aesthetic, and this is more true to the MSI that I know (their GK80 keyboard was, I'll admit, a little unexpected with its first impression... in a good way, for the record). That aside, what do I mean by this? Well, a no-frills, angular looking, 'gamer' orientated product. Simple as that. This flashy 'look at me' emphasis on design is further reflected in the presence of RGB lighting, present various zones that include the left/right buttons and MSI logo. Again, this is customised through software, which I will get to later. A variety of effects are offered, ranging from static, rainbow, color shift, 'marquee', and reaction (i.e. lights up when a button is pressed or the mouse is moved).

This is certainly a high-end specification list and goes some way to at least partially justifying the high price tag of this product. However, good specs are useless unless designed and implemented well, so. With that, I will leave objective impressions on performance/use and subjective impressions on design for the next section.
