The SUPRIM X has a pleasant, stylish cover that hides a robust, cooler design. The design has some new features, like a modernised TRI FROZR 3 cooler, but the fans are based on the latest TORX FAN v5.0 design. What is interesting is the back, which shows an aluminium backplate, which should help move heat away from the card passively. There is no longer a Dragon logo, but there is now a Suprim logo, which is very elegant. Everything about SUPRIM X's hardware has been made better. Inside the PCB, there are thicker copper traces (2oz), and the cooler's exterior is made of brushed aluminium with edges that have been cut precisely. Out of the box, the dual BIOS is set to Silent mode. For comfort, the GAMING BIOS mode can be turned on to make the product run "cooler." As explained on the previous page, the difference is not in performance. Instead, it is in the fan profile, which lets you choose whether you want a quieter or cooler running product.

At 336mm long, 140mm tall, and 71mm deep, this handcrafted behemoth is big. The grey and black design should be easy to spot because it is mostly the same as the RTX 4090 model, and MSI has done an excellent job of making it look stylish despite its size. The MSI GeForce RTX 4080 Suprim X has a TDP of up to ~375 watts, which means it needs a big 3.5-slot design that weighs 2.4 kg and a very complex cooling system uses a lot of materials. RGB has been changed, so it no longer goes to rainbow colours by default. Instead, it now slowly changes to white. With Mystic light software, you can sync it to any music you want.

The ADA series will replace the Ampere lineup, which will be phased out of the market as these cards are priced similarly but are significantly quicker. GeForce RTX 3080 Ti was equipped with 10240 stream/Shader processors, and the GeForce RTX 4080 kicks in at 9728 shading cores whilst being significantly faster. The GPU boost frequency has been increased to at least 2,625 MHz in gaming, but you'll likely see it hovering in a 2800 Mhz domain. The TDP of the RTX 4090 Suprim X rises to 325 watts while remaining within the parameters of the 12VHWPR three wires, which will be utilized on this model instead of four 8-pin connections. RGB lighting, which is greatly enhanced over the firm's earlier Gaming X models, contributes to the aesthetics. Colours are more brilliant, with seamless transitions and fewer prominent hot spots. Three lighting zones allow for complete customization: the chevrons between the three fans, the Suprim logo across the top edge, and the logo on the back.

Of course, with a card of this magnitude, cooling is essential. All three Torx 5.0 fans turn off when not in use. When they do, they are aided by a vapour chamber, ten thick heatpipes traversing the board, all-encompassing heatsinks, thermal pads on all important components, and memory module-specific heat pipes and heatsinks. Temperatures are unlikely to be an issue, and thanks to the aluminium backplate and metal anti-bending plate, the card sags slightly despite weighing little over 2.4kg.

Despite conforming to PCIe Gen 5 specifications, the GeForce RTX 4090 employs a PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 host interface. GeForce RTX 4080 is equipped with 16 Gigabytes of GDDR6X memory, which operates at 22.4 Gbps (effective data rate). This provides a substantial amount of volume and bandwidth combined it's 256-bit wide memory bus. With a 325W+ TGP, we advise a 750 Watt power supply as a minimum. Realistically through with the founder edition card, we did not hit that value. You're looking at roughly 275-300 Watts, which is significantly lower than the Radeon RX 6900X and GeForce RTX 3090. The board partners, however, have more TGT allowance; there's where the card will jump in Wattage, especially when you open up the power limiter.
