The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti certainly is a significant improvement for anyone running a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or GeForce RTX 2080. The RTX 4070 Ti is compatible with the latest features, including DLSS 3 technology, thanks to its support for NVIDIA's newest RT and Tensor Cores, which are more potent than earlier GPUs. Cooling is, of course, vital with a card of this capacity. When not in use, all three Torx 5.0 fans turn off. A vapour chamber, ten thick heatpipes traversing the board, all-encompassing heatsinks, thermal pads on all key components, and memory module-specific heat pipes and heatsinks all help them do so. Temperatures are unlikely to be an issue, and thanks to the aluminium backplate and metal anti-bending plate, the card sags slightly despite weighing little over 2kg. The heatsink array is topped with a stylish brushed metal shroud. MSI refers to the entire assembly as the TRI FROZR cooling system, and as you will see later, it does an excellent job of keeping temperatures low. MSI refers to the card's triple fans as 5.0 TORX FAN For longevity, the fans use dual-ball bearings, and each fan blade is connected at the end to increase strength and help guide airflow. And, yes, the card is wide due to the need for cooling real estate.
The RTX 4070 Ti's two encoders make it ideal for broadcasting and video editing, and they also support the advanced video coding format AV1. The card also has an aluminium backplate, as well as several MSI-exclusive features, including a new SUPRIM logo (rather than the dragon), one on the back, and three more on the fans. RBG lighting is, of course, present on the card and can be configured using MSI's software.
The cards are equipped with the much-discussed 12VHPWR power connector header (converter cable included that feeds from 8-pin connectors). MSI completes the package with a dual BIOS with silent and gaming (default) presets, as well as a vertical support stand that alleviates any concerns about a nearly 2kg behemoth resting against a PCIe slot. As expected, the display outputs include three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.1. The card has a BIOS setting that allows you to switch between Gaming and Silent modes. However, the clock rates in both are the same. The BIOS option is only available to change the fan curve. Silent mode reduces noise slightly but raises temperatures slightly.
Documentation and an adapter that transforms 8-pin PCIe power inputs to a 12-pin power connector are included among the included materials. Please, do not bend the cable too close to the connector; keep a 3-4cm distance from that plastic connector. RGB lighting, which is greatly enhanced over the firm's earlier Gaming X models, contributes to the aesthetics. Colours are more brilliant, with seamless transitions and fewer prominent hot spots. Three lighting zones allow for complete customization: the chevrons between the three fans, the Suprim logo across the top edge, and the logo on the back.
The latest 3x 8-pin to 16-pin converter from MSI is included. Just make sure you have a strong enough power supply. The metal and RGB-lighted splendour of the card is attractive. The front shroud has a brushed metal edge contrasting with two shades of grey. If you position it vertically, two RGB strips surround the main fan to add some colour. A strong metal backplate aids in heat dissipation around the back. Along the edge is another adjustable RGB strip and branding.
