The Mad Dog Entertainer 7.1 is a fine example of the breed, sporting a black half-size PCB with a very shiny gold anodizing on the bracket. You won't get this on an integrated solution. The connectors aren't the snazzy gold that you get with the much more expensive sound cards, but at least they follow the Microsoft color coding.

Black Dog.

It's quite small, clean layout, and lots of connectors.

Port order, while trivial, is backwards from all the other sound cards we've tested.

I'm seeing spots.

That is a lot of connectors.

The other side.

It does bear a startling resemblence to TB's Catalina.

Mad Bad Black Dog

Notice the jumper block? We have no idea; thought about pinching for mobo, but left in default.

Outputs 1,2,3,4 from left to right.

Left-most connector is the standard MS color coded.

The Envy24PT/HT-S.

You'll be seeing more of these.

Envious.

The VT1616 DAC/ADC chip.

Sixpack, I mean SixTRAC.

Speechless.

 The Wolfson WM8728.

Wolfson DAC.

Gone to the dogs.

Edge connectors, CD-in, Aux-in.

CD In, Aux In.

Two edge connectors, CD-in and Aux-in.  No internal S/PDIF.
