When we turn around the router on its belly, you'll notice a sticker. Your security is pre-arranged for you. Each router has a unique WPA2 key for the wireless network. You simply use that key (again unique to each router) and you are good to go. The router's IP address, the default is 192.168.1.1, and the default password to log in is admin. If you opt a Smart Wi-Fi account you can can also access some mobile apps, including the free Linksys Smart Wi-Fi mobile app (Android and iOS) to manage this router settings and features, via the Internet
Looking at the sides of the unit you can see the four antennas for the wireless, not high power antenna's, and sure we would have liked to see six antennas, this is a very expensive router. But four will suffice. And yes I do understand that I am to be called Sir nitpick form now on.
From left to right:
- Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) Button
- 4x Gigabit Ports
- 1x USB3.0 Port
- 1x eSATA/USB2.0 Port
- Reset Button
- 12v DC Power
- On/Off Switch
So as you can see, the ports are fairly standard with the exception being the one eSATA/USB2.0 Port. I have not seen a port like that before in a router. This actually is called a eSATAp connector (Power over eSATA, Power eSATA, eSATA/USB Combo, eSATA USB Hybrid Port (EUHP)). Well there you have it. The router's USB ports can be used to connect to external storage devices of any capacity. You can use external hard drives formatted in HFS+, FAT32, or NTFS. The router supports UPnP and DNLA streaming, so content stored on an external drive can be played back by network media streamers.
