Real World Benchmarks

The storage benchmark of PCMark8 is based on traces from Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, Adobe After Effects, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, World of Warcraft and Battlefield 3. The total score is determined by taking the geometric mean of the different parts. Again, the traces are measured in 'real time', including idle time. The score is an average of three runs for all ten of the trace tests. All scores on this page are time listed in seconds needed for the workflow to finish up, lower is better.

Battlefield 3
The storage trace is recorded while the user starts Battlefield 3, logs in, loads a saved game and starts playing. The trace is based on 887 MB of reads and 28 MB of writes.

World of Warcraft
This World of Warcraft trace contains the start of the game, login in and starting a level. The trace contains 390 MB of reading tasks and 5 MB of writing assignments.

Adobe Photoshop Light
This trace contains starting Photoshop, opening 14 images and executing seven operations on each of them. The trace contains 313 MB of reading tasks and 2336 MB of writing assignments.

Adobe Photoshop Heavy
This trace is based on editing a high-resolution photo and creating a hi-res poster for print. The trace contains 468 MB of reads and 5640 MB of write assignments.

Adobe InDesign
In this trace, a publication with a large number of images is created in InDesign. The trace contains 401 MB of reading tasks and 624 MB of writing assignments.
