Graphics memory (VRAM) usage and conclusion

Graphics memory (VRAM) usage

How much graphics memory does the game utilize versus your monitor resolution with different graphics cards and respective VRAM sizes? Well, we already addressed this bit of course. But let's have a look at the chart below. The listed MBs used in the chart are the maximum measured utilized graphics memory during the test run.

With a 4GB graphics card, you'll notice your VRAM is nearly or 100% filled flat out full at Ultra HD. Overall, the game will not utilize that much memory, at WHQ you'll see the number close to the 3GB range, which is comfortable for any modern age dedicated graphics card. Up-to Full HD (1920x1080) in fact any ~4 GB graphics card of decent caliber should do the job well. 4 GB or more will be sufficient for 2560x1440. If you want to play Ultra quality with Ultra HD as preferred monitor resolution, 6GB or better is always advised but in this game, not needed.

 Concluding

If you are into the genre, this game could be a nice surprise. It offers that Game of Thrones feel in a massive open world. Our forum community has been raving about his game, ever since the development started back in the year 2013. The game itself then. The tested PC version looks pretty nice and with the better image quality setting, I'd rate it even as good. Things really start to look better at the highest quality mode, and sure either 2560x1440 resolution wise or something above that up-to Ultra HD, serves this game the best. Up-to 2560x1440 the game is very playable, it's struggling a bit more at Ultra HD rather quickly though. I still need to check into it and will add results tomorrow on Wednesday, but Ryzen procs should be fine with this game really. The minimum 8GB system RAM really isn't enough with the better settings; you want 12GB at a minimum, 16GB is recommended. The vast majority of the game plays with proper framerates though, including with a somewhat older and mainstream card. It's all thanks to the Cryengine 3 really, which feels refined like fine wine. Overall the game feels smooth in game-play, nothing negative to mention there. FCAT/Frametime plots look reasonably well. As always, we do hope you like this little test as it will be an indicator of overall performance. All modern graphics cards will run the game at Full HD without any issue. There is just no need to drop down in images quality modes too massively and heck, that's where we as PC gamers need to be.

Currently, you WILL experience sudden performance drops and oddities. The developer already announced that patches are going to solve it. But overall, nice gameplay and decent enough graphics. BTW if you want the best quality and need a little more perf? Drop shadows, and set shaders and post-processing to high if you're attempting to play on ultra. You'll easily gain 20 fps with minimal visual impact

Please do make sure you have installed the latest compatible graphics card driver, the new 18.2.2 or higher driver from AMD, as well as at least GeForce 388.77 or the newer drivers as these, have been optimized for the game.

As always, you can download the latest AMD Catalyst drivers and Nvidia GeForce drivers here directly from our fast adn easy to use download section.
