Jetway Hummer HA08 LF motherboard review -
Overclocking continues and AMD overdrive
The processor tested today is the AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition, this is in fact a Phenom II X4 920 processor with one out of four CPU cores disabled. Since this is a BE edition we can easily overclock.
In AMD overdrive we simply max out the CPU voltage to 1.45~1.55V and increase the multiplier. With a heatpipe based air-cooler we did reach 3800 MHz though not stable enough. Once we settled at 3600 MHZ (18x200) we were good to go.
AMD Overdrive
A screenshot of the truly lovely AMD Overdrive utility. This is the performance control screen where you can see all primary variables and adjust them. Everything can be adjusted on the fly.
This is the performance control screen showing the tweakable variables. This was the stage where we tested the processor at 3800 MHz. We simply increased voltage to 1.55V, and increased the CPU multiplier. You hit apply... and that's it.
We use a simple 35 USD OCZ Vendetta air-cooler on the processor. Observe the temperatures (idle though), and yes... this is in overclocked status (3600 MHz / 1.55 volts).
Amongst a long line of reviews on motherboards based on this chipset we have checked out premium brands mostly. There's always more in the market, Jetway for example ... a company making a lot of OEM products for other businesses, but they do have their own retail production line. Though hard to find in the stores these product promise good quality, features and often an excellent price, yep allow me to repeat that -- always an excellent price.
Jetway Hummer HA08 LF motherboard review
Today the turn goes to the folks from Jetway. A company that you do not hear often from. They are rather sizable in OEM production and deliver a lot of material towards other motherboard and graphics card 'manufacturers'. But they handle retail products as well though. Their somewhat more exclusive motherboard series is tagged as 'Hummer' series. Which always brings a smile to my face as I immediately have to think about that big ass military car. Today we look at the Jetway Hummer HA08-LF motherboard. Armed with a lot of features, performance and an AMD 790GX chipset. There fairly little to dislike really.
