Overclocking

Overclocking test

As you guys know, to be able to order the 9900KS, Intel needs to bin their processors, sort the best ones that can manage 5 GHz on all cores stable with some reserve as well. That creates a certain expectation for overclocking and tweaking I guess. However, Intel Core i9 9900KS processors seem to be running close to their maximum frequency.

At default voltages, we can reach a clock speed of 5.2 GHz (all cores). Once we pass 5.2 GHz we need more voltage. We reached 5300 MHz on all cores stable, with 1.35 Volts applied on the CPU. We've tried hard, to achieve a higher clock frequency, but to no avail. But 5300 MHz on all cores certainly is impressive. We applied a simple LCS kit from Corsair.

At these settings, we now reach a power consumption of 320 Watts for the PC with only the CPU cores under full load, so we added roughly 60 Watts which is quite okay. Jumping from 5000 towards 5300 Mhz will not yield much result, we scored 2150 points in CB15 MT, and now reach 2266 points. So while we did score an extra 5% with our efforts it costs us 33% more power consumption.
