Performance - dGPU - Games: Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018)

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018)

We have overhauled our games test suite. Where the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti already was mostly free of any GPU limitation, the new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti simply ain't whatsoever.  We test Shadow of the Tomb Raider in DX12 with the highest image quality settings. For most games it is simple, faster cores matter more than more cores. So any six-core processor with high-frequency Turbos, will yield excellent results (as long as you are not GPU limited). We should note that 99% of you guys are GPU limited; a GeForce GTX 1080, for example, is only CPU limited at 1920x1080. Intel can run its cores easily in the 4.3 up to 5.0 GHz domain, this is why you will see the faster game performance with an RTX 2080 Ti, compared to the fastest AMD Ryzen processor. Again - with, say, a GTX 1080, these results would be much more close to each other.

Frequency matters in games more than the number of cores, and this is why that will benefit Intel and the 9000 series.
