Power Consumption
Now testing devices with so little power draw is a little icky and tricky to do.
Example of how we measure power consumption
So we monitor the setup in three conditions, IDLE, 100% CPU load and High Definition 1080P playback. Let's have a peek at the numbers.
The solution itself should consume a maximum of 17W, the IO chip (NM70) roughly 5 watts, then we add a SSD. In idle we see a power draw of 29Watt. Under CPU load roughly 38Watt and when watching 1080P High Definition content (GPU accelerated) only 35 Watt.
Great stuff to observe really. This might be the most capable power efficient HTPC solution to date.
The solution in an HTPC environment I want, needs to be be silent. The downside is that the product does tend to get a little warm. Both the processor and internal embedded GPU peaked towards roughly 60 towards 65 Degrees C. And while that is within a safe margin, it is a little on the high side. A little extra cooling (fan) is advised. The default fan on top of the Celeron 847 even at full load can't be heard really.
