Photos - The Cards
On the next few pages we'll show you some photos. The images were taken at 4272 x 2848 pixels and then scaled down. The camera used was a Canon 450D - 12 MegaPixel.
Two GPUs, double memory configuration .. that's a lot of wires and components to mount into a PCB. As you can see, the card is long for sure. I measured it up and it's 27 CM in length. But hey .. meet the HIS Radeon HD 4870 X2.
Aah ... a black PCB. Traditionally ATI always used a red colored PCB, which quite frankly doesn't fit the high-end products really well. High-end PCs are often pimped up a bit. I really like the black aesthetics here, and I think it's a very sexy look for the card. As you can see in some other photo's (look at top photo) most final versions will have a sticker on top of the cooler though. A bit of a shame really, as that Radeon sticker gone would have liked even better.
The R700 has a metal plate across the back of the card just like the older 3870 X2. Quite interestingly, it also has RAM on the back..
So here we see the backside of the product with the metal shim removed. You can clearly see the visible memory chips now.
