4. How much money did you spend on the rig as it is right now?

The value of the parts new is probably $1500. I'm a deal shopper though, i.e., EVGA X58 Micro for about $88 new. I finished this project in September of '09 so prices don't compare.

5. How often do you update/buy a new rig?

Upgrade constantly in a slow trickle. "Oh just this one thing... now I have that and this other thing is holding it back... Oh crap I'm out of money; well I could always buy those $3 thumbscrews to tide me over..."

6. What components are used?

  • i7 920 D0 @ 4.44GHz HT/Turbo, Prime95 and LinX stable, Folding 24/7
  • 2-way SLI EVGA GTX 260 (216, 65nm), Folding @ 621/1512/756
  • 6GB OCZ Platinum @1690MHz
  • EVGA X58 Micro
  • Corsair TX750W
  • WD RaptorX 150GB + 500GB Seagate & WD
  • Ultra m998 (before reconstruction)
  • Swiftech GTZ, MCR-320QP, MCP-655, EK Multioption 150mm, various fittings and tubing brands

7. Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel/AMD?

Nvidia, for a few reasons:

#1, I have never been treated better by a company other than EVGA, and they only sell Nvidia cards.
#2, CUDA, as I use my GPUs for Folding.

Intel for sheer power. Nothing else can feed SLI, and running multiple Folding clients is great.
