Testing methodology
Here are the specs of the PC used for the tests:
Mainboard
- Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Apex
Processor
- Intel Core i9-12900K (Guru3d review)
Graphics Cards
- Asus GeForce RTX 3080 TUF (Hilbert has reviewed the OC version)
Memory
- 2 x 16 GB V-Color Manta XPrism DDR5 6200 CL36
CPU cooler
Power Supply Unit
Chassis:
As a reminder, the used drives will be:
- Kioxia Exceria Pro 2 TB, which has been already reviewed in a separate test by Hilbert (PCIe Gen4 x4 drive, with up to 7,300 MB/s Read Performance)
- Kioxia Exceria G2 1 TB (PCIe Gen3 x4 drive, with up to 2,100 MB/s Read Performance)
And the cooling options are as follows:
- Bare NVMe drive
- Asus Maximus Z690 Apex M.2 heatsink,
- be quiet! MC1 M.2 heatsink,
- be quiet! MC1 Pro M.2 heatsink
- Sabrent M.2 2280 SSD Rocket Heatsink (SB-HTSK)
- ElecGear EL-80P Heatsink
The room (ambient) temperature is kept at 22-23 degrees Celsius. You’ll see the performance figures and the temperatures using each cooler. The used scenarios will be:
- Copying of the large file
- Crystal Disk Mark – 5 cycles
- AS SSD Benchmark - 5 cycles
Run directly one after another, without a cooldown period. Let’s head to the start of the contestants’ presentation, shall we?
