Final Words & Conclusion

Final Words & conclusion

The G.Skill TridentZ Royal Elite series is an excellent offer for users who want the best performance out of the box. That’s why the Samsung B-Die chips are used here. This kit is aimed at AMD users (if you’re going to have the Infinity Fabric divider at 1:1, usually it’s hard to keep it like that above 3733-3800 MHz) or the 11th gen Intel CPUs, where you want to keep the Gear 1 mode enabled. If the 3600 MHz with CL14 is not enough, you can always choose the 4000 MHz CL14 variant (but that has 1.55 V at default). The two 16 GB sticks with 3600 CL14 left me with good impressions, but more you’ll find in the text below. The heat spreader comes in gold and silver; we got the first one. The range of available frequencies is very broad. The slowest module in this series operates at 3600 MHz, and the fastest one reaches an astounding 5333 MHz.

Aesthetics

G.Skill has managed to make the TridentZ Royal just wonderful; you may opt for a Silver or Gold-themed heat spreader; it’s shiny and reflective and looks attractive. The 8-zone RGB LED system with crystalized design topside can create great lighting effects. On the other side – some of you can rather see it on a shelf for a showcase, not in the actual system.

Tweaking

The memory chips used here come from Samsung; the B-die chips are used here. We achieved a nice tweaked CL14 with 3600 Mhz at 1.5 V (1.45 V is the baseline value) on AMD and CL17 with 4000 Mhz at 1.5 V (1.45 V default) on Intel. You can always try to lower the latencies and go even higher with the frequency. Additionally – the Ryzen 5000 series should also make the overclock/tuning of the RAM better (and I should finally move to it from 3700X).

Gaming performance

That's a 1920x1080 (Full HD) gaming chart based on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. You can see the differences between the 8 core CPUs from AMD and 10-core Intel processors and what improvement you can achieve after overclocking each system's memory. Is it worth it? It's your call (but you need to remember the OC is free and only needs some time to set/test the stability). For Ryzen - the improvement vs generic 3200 MHz RAM is significant. For the Intel - XMP vs OC is usually a 1 fps improvement (so not really worth it).

Conclusion

G.Skill Royal Elite kit that we checked provides a default frequency (3600 MHz) that will be enough for practically all users, and the XMP 2.0 profile makes life easier. The stock performance is in a range of what was expected (thus – high-end). There’s some headroom still available, so if you want more, you can try to overclock the memory even further. With the reviewed kit on our X470 and Z590 platforms, it was possible to achieve 4000 MHz with CL17 with Intel system; for the AMD, we stayed at 3600 Mhz to have the Infinity Fabric divider set on 1:1 but with optimized timings. It’s a good result; you need to remember that those are 16 GB modules, which are not as overclocking-friendly as the 8 GB versions. As we usually state –reproducibility is never guaranteed, and your results may vary. The heat spreader is a relatively low-profile one (44 mm), so you shouldn’t encounter clearance problems with most CPU coolers. The 32 GB option is a lot for most users nowadays, but it has become quite common due to the price decreases of RAM (but that can end quickly). The price for 2 x 16 GB is ~450 USD/400 USD, which is expensive, but you need to remember that it’s the high-end RAM. The overclock that we achieved was very nice (mainly for Intel). Ryzen fans should be more satisfied, especially ones loving to dig deeper into the timings (because the 4000 MHz is not supported with IF set to 1:1. We can give G.Skill a “Guru3D Top Pick” award for this great and fast kit. The only real downside is the price that cannot be acceptable for most of the users. For some – the looks can be too flashy; that’s understandable. We have a broad choice in the market because you can select 2 x 16 GB 3600 MHz from the Ripjaws V or the TridentZ Neo or TridentZ Royal – to match your system colour/looks. Royal or even Elite performance doesn’t come for free. By the way – what would be the next series name? G.Skill TridentZ Royal Elite Ultra?
