Alright let's take a closer look at the product as tested today - first and foremost, above the packing. Clean looks.

Gigabyte X79 UD7

Included in the box next to the ATX sized motherboard you'll find the defaults like SATA cables, SLI connector (2/3/4-way) IO plate manuals and driver CD.

Included as well is is a 3.5" USB 3.0 bracket so you can lead fast USB towards the front side easily (2 ports). But also you will find a Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi Card providing 300 Mbps transfer rates (specced) with 802.11n.

Rear IO connectivity:

  1. 1 x PS/2 keyboard/mouse port
  2. 1 x CPU overclocking button
  3. 1 x BIOS switch button
  4. 1 x Clear CMOS button
  5. 8 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports
  6. 2 x USB 3.0/2.0 ports
  7. 1 x RJ-45 port
  8. 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector
  9. 5 x audio jacks (Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out, Rear Speaker Out, Side Speaker Out, Line In, Mic In, Line Out)

We'll use the OC button today in the benchmarks. And the blue/green switch is in fact a OC-Dual BIOS switch. A back-panel BIOS switcher and LED indicator, allowing users to select one BIOS for normal use, and another for specifically designated for overclocking. This means that if your overclocking configuration suffers from instability, you can easily revert to your stable settings if needed. We'll show you some BIOS examples later on in the article though.

When we flip the board around a little we stumble into the processor area. Reasonably spacious, the four DIMM slots draw attention but do cost space. But it makes sense to have them as close as possible to the processor (memory controllers) for optimal signal quality of course.
