Here you can see the AMD Richland APUused in today's review of the Gigabyte motherboard. Pretty much as big as any other AMD APU or Phenom or even Athlon II processors you may have seen. This one has a Northbridge and a GPU merged into it though. And it makes all the difference.
AMD 'A' series APUs Generation 2 will not fit on Socket AM3/AM3+ though, the processors have a socket design called FM2. Your Socket AM3/AM3+ CPU cooler however remains compatible with FM2. We fitted the good old OCZ Vendetta cooler without any issues though we are running into thermal limitations with that ancient cooler.
Here we can see the laser inscription on the APU. This APU can be found for roughly 135 to 145 EUR in the stores right now.
We have two Richland APUs at hand. We'll focuss on the A10 6800K APU for this review though. It runs at 4100 Mhz and can turbo towards 4400 MHz.
Also new, AMD has released gamer Radeon series memory. 4 DIMM kits up-to 2133 MHz will become available really fast. These are of course optimized for the AMD platforms.
