Here it is, the NVIDIA founder edition. The GeForce RTX 4080 has a proper 16 Gigabytes of reliable GDDR6X memory that works at a somewhat odd data rate of 22.4 Gbps offering 717 GB/sec of memory bandwidth. On the following pages, we will go into more detail about the product's features. The GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition card offers an opulence feel at hand; the product's finish is very well-crafted. The founder edition is three slots thick, though.

The ADA series will replace the Ampere lineup, which will be phased out of the market as these cards are priced similarly but are significantly quicker. GeForce RTX 3080 Ti was equipped with 10240 stream/Shader processors, and the GeForce RTX 4080 kicks in at 9728 shading cores whilst being significantly faster. It has a board design similar to the RTX 4090 Founder Edition. This is due to NVIDIA's decision to keep the previous-generation Dual-Axial Flow-Through cooling architecture. The cooler's design has been updated with more oversized radiators and a more significant fan design.

NVIDIA is the exclusive provider of power adapters included with RTX 40-series graphics cards, whether the Founders Edition or custom-designed boards by partners. The 12VHPWR connector has been under much scrutiny as of late; in some isolated cases, it overheated and melted. It has a lot to do with cable bending too close to the connector, user installation and perhaps poor quality control of these power connectors. We find it extremely hard to get these connectors even hot.

Despite conforming to PCIe Gen 5 specifications, the GeForce RTX 4090 employs a PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 host interface. GeForce RTX 4080 is equipped with 16 Gigabytes of GDDR6X memory, which operates at 22.4 Gbps (effective data rate). This provides a substantial amount of volume and bandwidth combined it's 256-bit wide memory bus. With a 320W TGP, we advise a 650 Watt power supply as a minimum. Realistically through with the founder edition card, we did not hit that value. You're looking at roughly 275-300 Watts, which is significantly lower than the Radeon RX 6900X and GeForce RTX 3090. The board partners, however, have more TGP allowance; there's where the card will jump in Wattage.

Oh, and in case you are wondering who's fabbing the NVIDIA founder cards ... Foxconn.
