Quick review: GeChic On-Lap 1102H portable extended monitor
Powered with a 7800 mAH internal battery

Today we quick 3-page review on something that I simply found handy, it is little related to the enthusiast gaming audience but handy in many situations. Say you're on vacation, have a gaming need, and console but no screen, e.g. you or the kids want to play on the say a Nintendo Switch? Or you're working overseas on your laptop but need that bit more screen space? Well, the GeChic On-Lap 1102H Portable External Display might come in handy. It's a simple light-weight (480g) external monitor that you can carry along in a portable fashion alongside say your laptop. The cool thing is that is has a 7800 mAH internal battery, that offers 4 hours of unrestricted usage without the need for a power source.

  • 11.6" FFS(Fringe Field Switching) Panel
  • 1080p Full HD IPS Wide Viewing Display
  • Supports horizontal & vertical displays
  • Supports HDMI/VGA inputs
  • Supports Kensington Lock on the side
  • Plug and play without any driver required

While you can find a plethora of pretty good portable monitors out on the usual outlets the difference for the 1102H, however, is the fact that it has that dedicated battery built in to the display, a nice 7800 mAH Li-Polymer battery will give it power. This means when fully charged we actually reached well over 4 hours of proper quality display output with normal brightness and contrast levels, that's pretty good really. For it's purpose and intention, the screen isn't half bad either. This 11.6” (16:9 Wide) model was fitted with an FFS panel, short for fringe-field switching liquid crystal display. These are not exactly high Hz gaming panels, but they offer good resolutions (for this model 1080p) and high-image-quality combined with low power consumption. Proper fringe field switching is pretty similar to IPS or S-IPS offering good performance and color gamut with high luminosity. The technology actually has been actively used in the cockpits of commercial aircraft displays. The On-Lap 1102H panel is rated at 350(cd/m2) of nits and has a typical contrast 1000:1, both really decent metrics for a small portable external display. The 1102H portable monitor also comes with two built-in speakers.

The monitor is auto source sense, basically, you connect a single HDMI cable between your host device (Smartphone, Laptop, small PC, Game consoles and sure, anything with an HDMI output. The display outputs at a native 1920x1080 pixel resolution. You can charge it with a USB charger, and if you're out of battery, sure you can power it over USB and use it like a normally wired monitor as well. But let's have a peek at the package, bundle, and product.

As you will see, the panel does not make use of USB to transmitting data, you can use the HDMI cable for your video signal output which is much preferred for image quality reasons.

Why would you need an external mobile panel with a strong battery? Well, perhaps as a second monitor for your laptop, what about that Surface Pro, SP that cannot provide enough power for an external monitor. Also, you can use it with a camera as a field monitor or as mentioned game console such as Nintendo Switch or PS4. It's just one of these easy to carry around screens that you can connect and use at any time for hours on just a single charge.
