Earlier this year Microsoft released the DX12-powered Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on PC, and it not exactly the best release we can all agree too. Microsoft and developer The Coalition learned a thing or two from that moment in time, as this DX12 Windows 10 version of Gears of War 4 runs like a proper PC game with extras:
- Dynamic resolution support (any resolution will be supported with a sensible dynamic field of view - including ultra-wide).
- Increased texture resolution (up to 4K resolution for select texture groups).
- A benchmark mode.
- Full keyboard/mouse input remapping (including cover/run and roll split).
- Far more comprehensive video settings.

The game allows you to tweak all a lot of graphics settings, but has your typical presets ranging from the lowest to the best image quality settings. With a mainstream graphics card, as our tests will show you we are going to recommend the High quality settings mode. The presets make full use of all the available settings – the 'Ultra' preset is the highest on everything which while the 'Low' preset is the absolute lowest settings on all counts.
