As we did in our previous GeForce FX review I like to state that one of the horror stories that that floats over the entire GeForce FX series right now is of course noise. Make no mistake .. only the 5800 models had that problem and NVIDIA rendered this model obsolete and replaced it with the 5900 series. The 5900 product that we have tested today is silent when we look at the sound-level. That by itself is nice to hear, and hey .. not only is the cooling solution cool ... it looks cool also. When you turn on the PC the fans will have two activated LED's in them. Hercules was the first to introduce them, we'll slowly see this more and more by diverse manufacturers.
Fair enough we see a decent enough potential in overclocking on this card. In fact it passes the default clocked 5900 Ultra so that makes up for a lot I guess. This Golden Sample branding lives up to it's reputation. At default your memory will do 850 MHz. The product is equipped with memory that can handle way more than default, that's additional value. What's also a great option to have is VIVO, the ability to playback and record video.
If you do not want to spend a tremendous amount of money on a high-end graphics cards and can settle for a little less then we definitely recommend the product, it's stable and for the money it offers heaps of functionality, features and really awesome performance. If you play your games at 1024x768x32 or have an LCD screen then just skip this product .. go for a 5600 Ultra or another less competitive product. You will save a lot of money on performance you won't even see. This product is for the true geeks. the hardcore gamers. It's recommended retail price at the time of writing this review is 549 Euro which is an awful lot of money for a graphics card that's not even the flagship among 3D videocards. That price will likely be a tad lower in the shops. Still, that's the high-end game you pay for the technology these days.
Gainward definitely did a very nice job on this GeForce FX 5900 128 MB and will be a serious and popular option for the NVIDIA fans. It's available in the stores as we speak.
