Product showcase – exterior
The Fractal Design Define S2 looks classy with the white color and black aluminum front cover. To open the side panels you simply need to unfasten them. Two thumbscrews are used for this purpose per each panel. The right side panel is soundproofed, which is a nice addition. As regards water cooling, the Define S2 is intended primarily for that kind of setup, with support for 420 mm radiators on the top (with a dedicated fill port), 360 mm in the front, as well as a 280 mm radiator at the bottom, and 120 mm one in the rear. That’s a lot for chassis of this volume! On the top, there is a solid aluminum panel. Normally no fans are installed there. You can remove it using the release button in the upper-left corner of the back wall.
If you remove the steel ModuVent cover, you will see the mounting bracket, which is detachable (but you need to remove 4 small screws that are sitting quite tight), and also the dedicated fill-port for liquid cooling systems.
This is the look of the top of the chassis with ModuVent set for exhaust, with dust filter. You can install up to nine fans.
- Front: 3 x 120/140mm (2 x 140 mm preinstalled)
- Rear: 1 x 120/140 mm (1 x 140 mm preinstalled)
- Top: 3 x 120/140 mm
- Bottom: 2 x 120/140 mm
The bottom filter can be easily removed, by pulling it out towards the front of the chassis.
The front filter is built into in the front cover, on the side vents, and can be removed. Also, you can see here the sound dampening material.
While in this area, we can check the clearance between the fan filter and the front panel. According to Fractal Design, the new chassis should offer 15% more space at the front, which improves airflow and allows to fit a fan behind the front panel. Here you can see that the gap is about 25 mm wide.
