Concluding

Forspoken is a compelling open world action role-playing game that puts players in the shoes of the protagonist Frey Holland. As a stranded girl, Frey possesses a range of skills and abilities that enable her to navigate the vast open world and engage in both field exploration and combat. With a captivating storyline and a diverse array of gameplay elements, Forspoken is an immersive experience that is sure to keep players entertained for hours on end. Now the bad; you're charged $80 for the most simple edition of this game, and honestly .. it felt like a rip-off. Forspoken's graphics are not as impressive as its initial trailers implied. Its lighting system, in particular, feels outdated compared to current-gen games. While the game features some impressive particle and wind effects, the overall graphics quality leaves something to be desired. On the bright side, the quality of character designs in Forspoken, particularly in the real-time rendered cutscenes, is neat and compelling. Technology wise housed inside the game is a reworked Luminous render engine; you might know it from Final Fantasy XV.  In terms of upscaling, Forspoken includes AMD FSR 2 and NVIDIA DLSS 2.4 and Intel XeSS. Weirdly enough, it lacks support for DLSS 3 Frame Generation.

Forspoken is also the first game to support DirectStorage technology. This technology creates a direct path between storage and GPU, allowing for smoother loading of textures and geometry without straining the CPU. In Forspoken, the technology works seamlessly, with no need to enable any settings. Especially in the internal benchmark, you can feel how fast loads in between scenes take, with a fast graphics card 1 or maybe 2 seconds.

If you're looking to experience all the graphics bells and whistles, including Raytracing, then your hardware must be up to the task. To play at 1080p Full HD with a smooth 60 frames per second, a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6700 XT, or an RTX 2080 (Ti) is required. However, if you turn off ray tracing, the system requirements will be lower. For 1440p gaming, you'll need an RTX 3070 Ti or Radeon RX 6800 to achieve a frame rate of 60 FPS. And if you're aiming for 4K, an RTX 4080 or higher is necessary. On the other hand, Series 7000 Radeon graphics cards can handle 4K gaming with raytracing and maximum graphics settings. Finally, Intel's ARC A770 also performed quite well in our tests.

Final words

Forspoken has some significant limitations when it comes to visual image quality. Despite being hyped up since its launch, it also has failed to deliver on performance and optimization. The latest patch did help out a little, though. It requires high-end hardware, yet the value it provides doesn't seem to match the cost. The use of Raytracing in this game has been underwhelming, leading to a decrease in FPS without any significant visual improvement. The hardware needs for RT games are steep. To enjoy RT gaming at 1080p, you'll need either an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT. If you're looking for smooth 1440p60 gameplay, you'll need an RTX 3080 or RX 7900 XT. The RTX 4090 or RX 7900 XTX will allow you to play RT games at 4K60 with a steady framerate. However, these demanding hardware requirements do not seem to justify the image quality being offered. To win over players, Luminous Productions will need to make some major improvements, especially given the $80 price tag that raises questions about the value the game offers. NVIDIA was, surprisingly enough, stronger, in this game. AMD has yet to release a Forspoken driver optimized for the Radeon RX 6000 or older Series graphics cards. The new RDNA3 cards did get their own beta driver (RX 7900 XT and XTX). And for an AMD tied title, we find that a little baffling.
