CPU Core Scaling

If you are wondering, what would be the effect of a four-core versus an eight-core processor for this the game? Or what happens if you do not have SMT (Hyper-threading) active. Well, let's test just that a couple of procs! I have a quick chart I would like to show you, the results below are based on default clock frequencies as well as a couple of tweaked processors. We apply the very same image quality settings as used throughout this article, highest.

First off, processor core scaling. Above you can see our default graphics card test system. This is the Core i7 5960X with eight cores and 16 threads. We always have an all core clock at 4200 MHz on this processor, as it is right now. We gradually disable cores and SMT (Hyper-Threading) to check what kind of an effect that has on the framerate, for this game the results are incredibly close meaning most processors will run the game really well. Overall, from four to six cores it's all fairly equal. One oddity, 4c/4t performed slightly better compare to 4c/8t. We sometimes see that happen. It did not effect 6c/6c versus 6c/12t etc.

AMD Ryzen

We often get asked, what is the framerate with a Ryzen processor, or what happens if you overclock that Ryzen to 4.0 GHz. So we will do just that. We take a Ryzen 7 1700X and then look at it tweaked to 4 GHz on all cores as well.

Above you are looking at a Ryzen 7 1700X being compared towards the (at the time 1200 USD) 8-core Core i7 5960X running all its cores at 4200 MHz. That setup has quad-channel memory btw. I really need you to understand that our default test system, is an overclocked/tweaked one.

If you compare the Ryzen 7 1700X with all 8-cores at 4.0 GHz towards our 5960X graphics card rig, you are looking at the typical 105 differential at Full HD and 13% at 1280x720p. Overall there are very acceptable values.  We can't wait to see what the Ryzen 2000 will bring with their increased clock frequencies.

The core utilization is reasonably threaded as well ..
