Performance modes

So you do not have a Raytracing compatible card, what now? Well, just switch in-between quality nodes or just disable RT. Look at ultra HD performance switching from Ultra quality mod towards High, that's nearly 3x to 5x more perf (!).

Concluding

F1 2022 is a significant cash cow for Codemasters and (owned by EA these days), the licensed F1 game is issued at full price each year, with very few improvements. I can hardly tell any difference between track quality when racing, even compared to the 2020/2011 edition of the game. The benefits can be found at new tracks and updated racing drivers respective to their teams. However, it is encouraging to note that this year's game has complete FSR, DLSS, and raytracing capabilities. The performance hit you gain from Ratracing, however, can be factor 3 to 5. As such, you must wonder if that is even worth the setting. Going back to pure rasterized gaming offers brilliant framerates. For the latter, the shadows and reflections are excellent, but they do cost a significant amount of performance. Of course, activating DLSS or FSR will give that extra performance if you have a compatible GPU. We're a little upset that AMD's new FidelityFX Super Resolution version 2.0 isn't included in the game. As proclaimed, it would likely take 15 minutes of work to implement. In the end, though, Codemasters re-re-re-re-re-re-re-releases the game year after year, and it remains to be more of the same. It's still a nice game, but we're fearful that with the EA acquisition has done a lot of harm, spoiling this title.

We have to talk DRM, as it made me nauseated. Every two to three GPUs, we swapped would deactivate the game for roughly 24 hours. Yes, we understand this will not be an issue for the regular end-users. But holy crap, that shit is annoying!

When you flick on all graphics settings and have the horsepower to deal with it, the looks look wonderful, yet they remain to be fairly generic. We believe the sweet spot is 2560x1440, and with a current high-end GPU for Raytraced support, 3840x2160 requires a lot of cash, unless you want to disable RT of course. For true F1 aficionados, Codemaster F1 2022 is second to none, though; no other title is as exact as this one. Also, an added benefit is VR support. Ray tracing, which made its debut in the game, is one of the reasons to choose it; however, strictly comparing to the 2021 edition, we're not sure if it's worth the money. Most if not all tracks are available in the 2021 edition as well as raytracing.

And yes, even without raytracing, the game looks fine. If you choose not to employ raytracing, the performance will be fantastic on any graphics card that has 8GB VRAM; even a very average card will be able to handle the game nicely. We appreciate what Codemasters/EA has done with the 2022 version; it's a PC game that many people will love. However, it's more of the same each year with minor changes and even more bloated DRM.
