eVGA P55 Classified

When you look at the processor socket itself you realize that P55 only takes Socket LGA1156 processors (Core i5 750 / Core i7 860/870). Now if you have a brilliant CPU cooler or liquid cooling block left from that older Socket LGA775 platform .. no worries, eVGA drilled some extra holes in the motherboard making sure you can use your old cooling solution as well. That's classy.

When we flip the board once more we spot the DIMM slots. P55 is back towards Dual-channel memory. Correspond the DIMMs modules according to color coding for proper dual-channel configuration, and equip the red banks first please.  The ATX motherboard power header is located to the right of the motherboard and over to the left we spot another six SATA2 headers. But what's that funny stuff to the lower right of the motherboard you ask ? Well, let's zoom in.

Here you are looking at the ShowVolt feature. Tweakers and overclockers also like to read out voltages on say CPU core, VDIMM,VTT, CPU PLL etc. Well, if you don't have a multi-meter handy .. no worries .. one is actually integrated into the motherboard.

To the left that blocky thing is the display. We'll show you a video on this feature shortly after the photo-shoot which will explain it all.

As you can see the motherboard is cooled passively. No noise, purring and whirring fans whatsoever, eVGA calls this the "Double Play" Heatsink. The more I look at the motherboard, the more I tend to like the black/red color schema. To the lower right you can see the six native SATA2 ports. Mind you that this motherboard does not have Parallel ATA / IDE connectors (!)
