Final Words & Conclusion

EVGA once again has a nice offering with this SuperNOVA NEX750G model power supply. But I don't fully understand why it's positioned and marketed as SuperNOVA product ? When you strip away the naming you'll end up with a fairly normal but certainly good GOLD certified PSU, yet one that is offered by many competitors.

Thoughts

See, EVGA stripped away everything that was interesting on the 1500W SuperNOVA Classified model. The voltage rails are no longer DIP switch configurable, then what made the SuperNOVA 1500W so special was the individually sleeved cabling. That's missing as well. And thirdly, the SuperNOVA 1500W had a USB port which you connected to your motherboard and from there on you could use SuperNOVA software to monitor and configure the power supply from your operating system.

None of these features have been introduces in the SuperNOVA NEX750/650 SKUs and I find that to be a bit of a miss as these are supposed to be the premium lines of the EVGA power supplies. 

In all fairness obviously I do understand the choices made though, it's all about cost control. EVGA wanted to deliver a rock solid Gold certified fully modular PSU to you guys at an acceptable price. And that 1500W model would cost you over 400 USD/EUR, this 750W model will cost you just under 100 USD/EUR.

Admittedly, I would have happily spend 50 EUR more if there would be individually sleeved cables or the SuperNOVA functionality embedded though. But it is what it is, and it is still an impressive product performance wise, as EVGA certainly didn't forfeit there. 

Stability

That said, it was a pleasure to test the the unit alright. It obviously had no issues whatsoever with what we threw at it, then again we reached over 700 Watt which is not a problem for this PSU even so close to it's maximum output. While passing 700 Watt load we do need to say that is slowly will get more noisy, you can hear the PSU, not annoying or anything though. The internals are manufactured by FSP by the way.

The Looks

Aesthetics then, the NEX750 SuperNova  looks great with its dark design. A word of advice however has to be the concern of length, this puppy is 18 CM deep, so make sure you have the right chassis for that.

The cables are not individually sleeved, but do come sleeved in groups of wires for you in a dark black coating with red coating for the graphics cards. As stated, that is a cheaper route to take, but an understandable one. Good to see is that the connectors themselves are all black as well. The added benefit obviously is very clean looking wiring for that ultimate finish. Modular designs are the way to go. You use what you need in terms of wiring, keeping the innards clean and tidy, plain and simple. And overall the PSU is a great looking PSU, slightly longer than your typical ATX sized PSU though.

Efficiency

Now combined with the Gold factor -- the certified model at 90% efficiency at 50% load -- the PSU seems to be a winner, 50% is 325W which is roughly the spot you need to be in when ganging with one graphics card. Our tests show that the PSU positions itself where it needs to be be. So that 50% load means 325 Watt -- go significantly under or above it and your efficiency will drop a little. But overall in-between the 600 and 750W range is ideal for gamers that have one graphics card (efficiency and thus power consumption wise).

Wrapping it up

But lets round things up. The PSU is very efficient, has good looks, is modular, is stable, comes with sleeved cabling. Noise wise you can hear the fan a little, under full load you can hear it much like a heat pipe based cooler.

Pricing wise EVGA is pretty spot on for what the PSU offers, a Gold certified 750W power supply. The hardware and technology are done right with good components. We just had hoped for at least one of the aforementioned features like the SuperNova Software suite. But hey, wishful thinking.

At standard you'll receive 5 years of warranty for this product, however EVGA is offering a free extended Warranty upgrade on this PSU. Register your EVGA SuperNOVA power supply within 30 days of purchase, and the extended warranty will automatically be added to your EVGA account. The EVGA Extended Warranty is only available to the original owner.

We like the PSU, however it feels a little run-of-the mill as our expectancy was a set a little higher and perhaps I am to blame to for that by comparing with  a SuperNOVA Classified model PSU. SO in all fairness, the NEX750 is a quality build with four impressive 12V rails. The PSU looks great, and although not individually sleeved we certainly still like the 'normal' sleeving. The PSU is nice and efficient and priced fair. Combined with a ten year warranty that certainly testimony of a product that EVGA themselves believes strongly in. We can certainly recommend the NEX750 for what it is, a quality, highly efficient and aesthetically pleasing power supply.
