Tweet Electronic Arts Battlefield 2

Copyright 2005 - Guru3D.comThe award-winning Battlefield franchise invades the high tech frontlines of modern warfare in this sequel, Battlefield 2. The game brings the intensity and excitement of Battlefield 1942 into the modern era with enhanced team play and the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available. In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, the Chinese, or the Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC. Additionally, persistent character growth allows players to rise through the ranks and attain the ultimate rank of General. An improved game engine and physics system brings the modern battlefield to life like never before.

The material penetration feature measures weapons' ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive. Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle- to-player ratio and an optimized gameplay experience. Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. Soldier kits now affect vehicles that players utilize on the battlefield. For instance, the medic kit can transform a vehicle into a mobile aid station and the special ops kit can render aircraft undetectable to enemy radar.

The Introduction

Battlefield series started with the release of Battlefield 2 by EA a while back which became instant hit, especially multiplayer part of it. Then there was great support in the form of mods and expansions which kept the game alive and kicking and in turn making it one of the most popular online multiplayer game.
Battlefield 2 is actually third installment of this series. The second game in the series was Battlefield Vietnam and it was a tad disappointing compared to original battlefield. So what EA has done to make battlefield 2 a better game? Lets find out.

The Gameplay

The first distinct feature of Battlefield 2 is only 1 gameplay mode. It offers only one mode. The conquest mode that we have seen before in previous Battlefield games. This may sound a little disappointing but this was the most popular mode in BF1942 anyway. What has changed a lot is gameplay experience and the way whole modern warfare is put in front of you.
The Battlefield 2 is game based on modern era. You have the United States, China and some made up middle eastern forces who combat against each other on 12 different maps. You have a modern arsenal of weapons with you ranging from fighter jets, combat helicopters, supply helicopters, hummers, desert buggies, all terrain vehicles, anti-aircraft rockets and amore. This is supported by a variety of weapons and different types of soldiers that we have saw in Battlefield 1942.

So what makes this game so different than the previous 2 games? The answer is its now how a combat game should be. There is a commander who can organize and manage the troops on the ground. The Commander gives the orders and its up to the squad leaders to carry out the operations. Commander can look for enemy troops, call for artillery barrage on the enemy positions. Also now the squad is well organized. You can have a complete squad which can have a medic, engineer, anti-tank rockets, sniper, special forces marine and supplier. Basically a complete self sustaining unit. Now you can call for a supply drop, which will drop you supplies so you no longer need to go to the nearest supply stations to rearm yourself. It can also be used to heal yourself. Medics can now revive unconscious teammates before he is re-spawned. In total there are seven different kits available for you to choose from. Each kit comes with different weapons meant to do a particular job. A squad leader can keep an eye on his squad and give them specific commands. This calls for the teamwork and organized gameplay experience. You as a unit can do various things. Special forces members can destroy enemy artillery, vehicles, radar stations and antennas. The unit based gameplay is not new but the way its implemented in this game is simply brilliant and innovative. It feels almost perfect. No other game before was able to put everything together this way. The ease of handling controls, giving orders, keeping  an eye on the map, keeping an eye on what your units and teammates are doing is just made so easy once you get to know all  the controls. The manual given with the game will help a lot but there are in game instructions too, which tell you what to do and how.

Battlefield 1942 - Electronic Arts
Battlefield 1942 is one of those games. While the publicity is pretty much over and people have already been fragging others for months, it just does NOT get old. What makes this game so addictive? Multiple vehicles? Tons of players? Nice multiplayer goals? Realistic maps? Combine all those into one game, albeit with one of the most horrid single player scenarios in history, and you have Battlefield 1942.
