Graphics (VGA) performance Timedemo and IQ settings

Before we begin with the graphics performance tests a little explanation. We use a timedemo (thanks John / JapAMD) that is located in the the Times Square level, have a peek this is our test-run exactly:

Above the exact time demo we use to measure game performance. This is the Times Square level

For all our graphics performance tests we apply 4xAA and have enabled Ultra quality mode. DX11 is activated and tessellating like a freakozoid, next to that the High-resolution texture package was installed as well. We disabled the variety of available edge AA enhancements though as we heard of little bugs. And since the playfield in-between AMD and NVIDIA should remains the same, that's off. It does give is a slightly better framerate at the cost of a tiny bit of additional eye-candy.

The graphics cards used are:

  • GeForce GTS 450
  • GeForce GTX 470
  • GeForce GTX 480
  • GeForce GTX 560 Ti
  • GeForce GTX 570
  • GeForce GTX 580
  • GeForce GTX 590
  • Radeon HD 5770
  • Radeon HD 5870
  • Radeon HD 6770
  • Radeon HD 6850
  • Radeon HD 6870
  • Radeon HD 6870 X2
  • Radeon HD 6950
  • Radeon HD 6970
  • Radeon HD 6990

Each card runs on the same PC with the same operating system clone. GeForce cards use the 275.33 WHQL driver and for AMD Radeons we used the latest 11.6 WHQL driver with the Catalyst Application Profile 11.6 CAP2 for multi-GPU support.

Our test setup is based on Intel X58 (MSI Big bang XPower) with 6 GB of DDR3 ( Corsair 1600 MHz) memory. The processor is a Core i7 965 clocked at 3750 MHz.

Now... AA is disabled in-game with the new 1.9 patch and dx11 + hi res textures. if you like to enable Anti aliasing then you need to create an autoexec.cfg file and place it into your "Crysis 2" folder. Now copy paste these two lines into the autoexec.cfg and save it and play.

r_PostMSAA = 2
r_UseEdgeAA = 3

Let's head onwards to the next page where we'll look at the 1280x768 and 1600x1200 resolution performance first.

Crysis 2 DX11 VGA and CPU performance benchmarks
Crysis 2 launched earlier this year I have to admit, I was a little ticked off that the game was only a DX9 title. Hence I did not even bother to purchase it. However a week and a half ago Crytek released a new 1.9 patch, that and bringing DirectX 11 towards the game. And yet another patch was released, a high-resolution texture package. The end-result even baffled a graphics monger like yours truly. Today well be looking at game performance with a graphics card or sixteen. Next to that we'll also have a peek at CPU scaling a little to see on what platform the game runs best.
