Specifications and features

The Crucial P1 SSD delivers. Capacities start at 500GB and scale towards a whopping 2TB. Accelerate performance with the latest NVMe PCIe technology. The P1 is designed to be the only storage upgrade you need — storage, speed, and dependability. Crucial a consumer brand of Micron Technology for memory and storage upgrades, today announced the availability of the Crucial P1 SSD, a PC storage device that leverages the NVMe™ PCIe® interface and Micron’s leading-edge QLC technology to deliver fast capacity for less. This is an expansion of Crucial’s award-winning portfolio of dependable, high-performing, and affordable SSDs. The Crucial P1 SSD delivers category-leading, real-world performance. PCMark® 8 benchmarks show that the drive is capable of mixed-mode throughputs of up to 565MB/s, with a composite score of 5,084, which outperforms similar SSDs within the price category. The SSDs are available in 500 GB at $ 109.99 (about 95 euros) and 1 TB at $ 219.99 (converted about 190 euros). The manufacturer also indicates that in February 2019 a 2TB version of the P1 will be available.

Product Highlights:

  • Leverages NVMe PCIe interface to deliver fast capacity for less
  • Enhances everyday computing tasks via hybrid-dynamic write acceleration
  • Available in 500GB and 1TB capacities
  • Backed by a 5-year limited warranty

With sequential read/write speeds up to 2,000/1,700 MB/s, the P1 provides unwavering performance via hybrid-dynamic write acceleration, a unique SLC cache implementation. The drive offers an MTTF of 1.8 million hours and an endurance of up to 200TB total bytes written, with power usage at an active average of 100mW. Available in capacities up to 1TB, and backed by a five-year limited warranty, the Crucial P1 SSD leverages Micron quad-level cell (QLC) NAND technology. By storing four bits in each NAND cell, QLC NAND narrows the affordability gap between hard drives and flash storage, enabling increased speeds and capacities at a more affordable price point.

Advanced features

The P1 SSD offers a range of additional benefits, including:

  • Data loss protection via the Multistep Data Integrity Algorithm
  • Protection from overheating via Adaptive Thermal Monitoring tools
  • Faster writes via Hybrid-Dynamic Write Acceleration technology
  • Data protection at the component level via Redundant Array of Independent NAND

SM2263 PCIe NVMe M2 SSD controller

With this release we finally see the SM2262 and SM2263 series controller embedded, Silicon Motion provides PCIe G3 x 4 Lanes NVMe 1.3 controllers while supporting the latest 3D NAND from the main flash manufacturers. The SM2262EN, an ultra-high performance SSD controller solution, delivers peak sequential read and write transfer speeds of up to 3,500 MB/s and 3,000 MB/s, respectively, and random read and write IOPS of up to 370,000 and 300,000. The SM2263 is targeted at mainstream client applications and features sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,400 MB/s and 1,700 MB/s respectively. The SM2263XT, a DRAM-less controller solution, reduces BOM cost and form factor without compromising performance while enabling 11.5mmx13mm BGA SSDs ideally suited for 2-in-1 systems, Chromebooks and mobile devices. The P1 has been fitted with QLC compatible SM2263 controller.

Crucial will offer the P1 series fitted with vertical stacked (3D) NAND from Micron, written as QLC, these units receive a proper 5-year warranty. The 500 GB version has a 100 TBW value, the 1 TB version is rated at 200 TBW, and the future 2TB version would get a 400 TBW value.  So a 1TB unit would last you 11 years if you'd write 50GB each and every day for 365 days per year.
