The Software

Let's have a look at the software.

Installation for the first time went flawlessly, really it was a breeze. It only took 15 minutes *cough* to install the drivers. But granted everything worked flawlessly and hey, I did not even need to reboot despite the software telling me to do so.

I have to give two thumbs up to Creative to finally listening to our AOL pleas. In the past whenever we installed a Creative product mysteriously we saw AOL icons on the desktop. We described them as little cancers that do not belong there! Thank God that they are gone. Anyway, back to the software.

We'll show you the most important pieces of software that you'll use. Although Creative's driver support often lacks regular updates they simply do offer the best software package available. You can't think of it and it is in there. In fact so much that we can't handle all of them due to time constrains. What my eyes noticed this time is that the HTPC thing is getting more popular (Home Theater PC). Creative therefore introduced it's Creative Entertainment Center software. This is Media Center in it's smallest form.  You can view your pictures here, listen to your music, watch your movies or play your DVDs. The software is controlled by your small remote control and looks and feels like the Microsoft's MC.

MediaSource Player
This of course is the MediaPlayer that we all know and love from Creative. It supports almost any music format out there and is quite flexible in configuring. You have to love the EAX and CMSS function on it so you can mold sound any way you like it.

Other pieces of software that are installed are Creative Audio Console, Creative Diagnostics, Creative EAX Console, Creative Speaker Settings, Creative Surround Mixer, Creative THX Setup Console, Creative WaveStudio, SoundFont Bank Manager

These tools come standard with most (not all) SoundBlaster cards, with both the Live series but also the Audigy series. They permit you to control and regulate the settings of the soundcard with regards to speaker arrangement, CMSS modes, EAX effects, and equalizer. Everything can be regulated from bass management, EQ, LFE's and so on.

Graphic Equalizer:  You are looking at a 7-band Equalizer. Good, but limited. Why only 7 levels? I personally like to tune that bass a bit more.
