Final words and conclusion

We really liked the Cougar 700K EVO. Although theoretically, it’s a typical gaming keyboard targeted at MOBA/MMO fans, typing on it was not only possible but actually quite pleasant. At 119 USD the price is reasonable, but only a one-year warranty is provided. You get an aluminium frame, Cherry MX switches, and very good quality. The software is surprisingly good, too! It’s light and intuitive even for first-time users. The features that it provides are really useful (macro recording and profile saving - you can have three of them). Profile-selection, G-, and media keys are a welcome addition, the only thing we’re missing here being a volume roller - a simple yet effective solution. The icing on the cake is the leatherette cushioned palm rest. Although in theory, you don’t need to use it, it’s got rubber feet, so it’s best to keep it on if you’re looking for stability. Overall, the Cougar 700K Evo’s improvements over the 700K are quite subtle, but they are needed in today’s market. Hey, it’s not called Evo without a reason.

Aesthetics

The 700K EVO is very similar to its predecessor in terms of the overall design. You get an aluminium frame, as well as media and profile keys. The overall blacked-out look is still fresh and original, with all of the edges and protrusions. The LED lighting system does a great job, and the colours are clear and crisp. You can adjust each key’s lighting to your vision.

 Final words

Cherry MX switches, very good overall quality, aluminum frame, a fancy leatherette palm rest, and good software (although you need a separate application for Cougar keyboards, headsets, and mice, if you have them). All of that costs 119 USD, which is a really reasonable price for such features. You get five G-keys, and the option to store three profiles in the built-in memory, as well as multimedia keys. It’s a pity that there’s no volume roller and that the warranty period is only one year. But you can’t have all, right? Maybe this could be an opportunity for a next model, possibly called the 700K REVO? The product receives a Guru3D Recommendation, based on the total package you get here, the features, the quality, and all of this at a good and fair sum of money.
