Mechanical Cherry Keys

Let's have a peek at the mechanical switches & keys and explain what that is all about, as you can swap them out if needed/required/wished for. The K95 keyboard houses Cherry MX Red switches.

  • Cherry MX Black - Linear switch with Actuation Force: 60g (40g-80g overall)
  • Cherry MX Brown Switches - Tactile Switch with Actuation Force: 45g (55g Peak Force)
  • Cherry MX Blue Switches - Tactile & Clicky with Actuation Force: 50g (60g Peak Force)
  • Cherry MX Red Switches - Linear Switch with Actuation Force: 45g

Basically there are four types of Cherry MX switches available: red, black, blue and brown. Each color switch feels different and the K95 is ONLY available with white LEDs and Cherry MX Red switches.

So yes, the K95 is 100% mechanical now, not even the functions keys are dome based. New also is per-key adjustable back-lighting, using white LEDs, so that you can customise which keys are lit according to the game you’re playing. Corsair keeps the the contoured red WASD and 1-6 key-caps. You can easily purchase and install the keys by using the supplied key cap puller tool, just pull them up gently and they'll be lifted out of place.

Cherry MX Red mechanical switches are intended for for fast, efficient gaming action with 45g actuation force. It's all about customization with mechanical keyboards. Heck, if you game intensely and the letters fade away, you want to be able to replace the keys right?

The K95 keyboard has a block of 18 G-keys located to the left side, next to that it has three macro key sets, so you can program 54 macros in total. We'll look at that in a tidbit with the software. The G-Keys are located quite a bit closer to the normal function keys and inevitably you'll likely press a G-key by accident where you wanted to press the shift key as they are close together. A problem we see with Logitech keyboards a lot as well. Macro recording is great, select the key, press MR (which starts flashing red) and program the macro or alternatively, configure this in software.

There we go, that's like an injection of Bada-bing Bada-BLING my man. But since we see them activated here, let's talk about the LED back-lighting a little shall we?
