Final Words & Conclusion

The new RM 650 definitely belongs where it is positioned, in the upper range of mainstream even towards high-end series. The power supply does what the doctor ordered, it's really silent and the efficiency was very respectable. This Gold certified PSU we think is spot on, at certain loads even closing in to Platinum levels. That makes this PSU simply really good, albeit being marketed as silent PSU, we'd have no problems running it in stress-PCs either.

Prices

  • RM450 - $99.99
  • RM550 - $109.99
  • RM650 - $119.99
  • RM750 - $129.99
  • RM850 - $149.99
  • RM1000 - $199.99

Hey that's good news, at a price of 119 USD / 99 EUR the product pricing is not particularly expensive alright. Stability wise we have very little to complain about. Lovely is obviously the massive single +12V rail, it has more than enough power to handle two graphics cards, so multi-GPU wise you are good to go as Corsair offers six 6/8-pin PEG graphics headers.

Aesthetics

Aesthetics then, the RM series looks really good with its black/yellow design. It would look absurdly nice with MSI's HAWK, Lightning, MPower and XPower series of graphics cards and motherboards alright.  The cables are all flat for you applied in a dark black coating. Good to see is that the connectors themselves are all black as well. The added benefit obviously is very clean looking wiring for that ultimate finish. Looking at ther RM 650 reminds us a little about the HX series, yet Corsair improved on it, it's modular, efficient and Corsair added the option to use LINK software as well. So now you may monitor the PSU on several registers and values. Anno 2013 we feel that modular designs are the way to go, and that's where you are in luck as well. You use what you need in terms of wiring, keeping the innards clean and tidy, plain and simple.

Concluding

Overall the RM series power supplies seem to be of nice build quality with good aesthetics and features. Now combined with the gold factor -- the Gold certified model at 90% efficiency at 50% load -- the PSU seems to be a winner. Our tests show that the PSU positions itself where it needs to be be and this. But lets round things up. The PSU is very efficient, has good looks, is modular, is very stable, comes with sleeved cabling and then we have to acknowledge it's seriously silent as well. So it's all good really. With a good size of 150mm x 86mm x 160mm it will install easily in almost any PC. The 119 USD MSRP we feel is fair, it is an MSRP meaning retail and e-tail prices always are lower. The 5 year warranty that you receive with this product IMHO does make up for the few tenners extra in price premium. There's very little else to say other than confirming that the RM 650 is simply a rock solid product that will be recommended by a whole lot of tech media. Nice job Corsair.
