The top layer is made of a flexible cloth with a low coefficient of friction. The weave is very fine and tight, which lets you make the most of the option to adjust your mouse’s resolution in 1 DPI steps (applicable for example in Corsair Dark Core RGB Pro), regardless of whether you use an optical or a laser sensor. In other words, this really is a high-performance mouse pad that’s going to work perfectly for gaming or any other type of task you can think of. For now, at least, the Corsair MM500 is only available in matte black, completely smooth, with only the screen-printed Corsair logo in the lower-right corner.

The mat is about 3 mm thick, and it would’ve been much better to make it at least 5 mm. I assume this choice was made to improve the weight and handling. After all, there is no other option than to use it on large surfaces, and the product weighs over 1500g as it is, and that’s a lot.

If you flip the MM500 over, you’ll see the part that comes into contact with the surface of your desk. It’s made of plush rubber with an embossed finish, providing a secure grip even on very smooth tabletops. It’s going to be stable or any surface as long as it’s not bumpy, so wooden, glass or metal desks won’t be a problem. One crucial thing to mention here is that this mouse pad will do a great job protecting your varnished wooden desk from any spilled drinks.

The finish on the edges is exactly the same as in other Corsair mouse pads, with a densely stitched binding to maximize durability. Keep in mind that this part of the product is the most susceptible to wear and tear, so it is essential that there aren’t any gaps in the stitching, and, truth be told, there’s nothing left to be desired in this respect.

We can attest that the Corsair MM500 is a mouse pad that fully meets all expectations. We never had a problem with this product, and there isn’t a word of complaint I can think of as far as the workmanship is concerned. The fabric surface doesn’t have any flaws or blemishes, and if you run a finger from side to side, it feels perfectly uniform.

We have tested the MM500 with a couple of high-performance mice, and none displayed any signs of pixel skipping. The matte black color and the densely woven top surface certainly lend themselves to this result as well.
