Final words and conclusion

Final words and conclusion

The Corsair 420mm kit got tested and found to perform effectively, but not superbly (especially with this radiator size). The kit is a modification of the previous model, with the integration of iCUE functions now moved outside the cooling block towards a NODE. This neccesitates the need for a separate commander controller, adding costs and complicating cable routing. The design style is described as lovely, dark, and understated. The evaluated version does include RGB fans, cooling performance is comparable to previously tested models. Adjusting the default CPU clock frequency resulted in better performance. The inclusion of three 140mm ELITE fans is a positive feature, as they provide a significant amount of airflow at low RPM and low noise levels. The fans are PWM-compatible and can be controlled through iCUE software, allowing for a highly adaptable and visually pleasing solution. The balanced or quiet mode options provide adequate performance at barely audible decibel levels.

Aesthetics & Design

The overall appearance of the product is aesthetically pleasing, featuring a black or white design. The use of iCUE software allows for customization of the built-in Corsair logo on the cooling block to match the RGB color scheme of the motherboard. For example, it can be set to red for an ASUS ROG theme, orange for a Gigabyte Aorus motherboard, or white for an MSI Titanium series motherboard. This enhances the cohesive appearance of the final PC build. It is worth noting that the iCUE software has improved significantly since its initial release, and it is capable of synchronizing all Corsair components. Despite not being perfect, it has become a distinguished feature.

Installation

The assembly process of this kit is simple and efficient, similar to other models. The closed loop coolant system is pre-installed at the factory. To install the kit, simply place the backplate and standoff screws, position the cooler, and secure it with the provided hardware. The black color of the kit makes it a sleek and stylish addition to any PC. It is a viable alternative to heat-pipe coolers, as it is both quiet and visually appealing. With a minimal time investment of only ten minutes, even those without advanced technical skills can easily assemble the kit. Overall, the performance of the 420mm kit is impressive, in terms of its cooling capacity. Even when the processor is overclocked, the kit maintains its performance without any issues. The fans and pump can also be set to silent mode for a noise-free experience. In balanced mode settings, the kit remains silent enough, but not silent.

Pricing

The Corsair H170i ELITE Capellix XT has been released with a steep price of approximately 240 USD. The H115i will be priced at 200 USD, while the H150i will be priced at 220 USD. Additionally, the 420mm model that was tested is priced at 240 USD. It is worth noting that these prices are higher than previous models in the Corsair H series. This 420mm model in Europe would cost about 300 EUR.

Conclusion

We are comfortable with the default acoustic performance of the kit as it provides ample cooling capacity. However, it is essential to note that the balanced mode may not be completely silent when used with a high-end, high-TDP processor such as the Core i9 12900K. The good news is that the ability to adjust the RPM behaviour based on personal preferences is a significant advantage. The iCUE TAB feature allows for the creation of custom profiles, enabling users to set the fan RPM to a fixed rate or create a delta, such as increasing RPM when the temperature reaches 75-80 degrees Celsius. This allows for the performance of the cooling system to be adjusted to meet individual needs. Additionally, the inclusion of an iCUE Commander simplifies cable routing, making the installation process more manageable. Overall, the cooling performance is entirely satisfactory, the noise level can be configured to personal preference, and the revamped design is visually appealing. This liquid cooling system is highly recommended for those looking for a customizable and enjoyable cooling experience.
