The 4790K Silicon lottery - Bingo !

So after checking, testing, stressing and tweaking we ended at the following settings:

  • 50x CPU multiplier
  • 1.35V CPU Core Voltage
  • 1.90V CPU VCCIN (CPU Input voltage).

This results in a perfectly stable 5 GHz on all cores. And as you can see we have been able to shave of a little extra fat (read Voltage), which will help us getting temps down a notch. Here is an overview of the BIOS settings (we have XMP enabled BTW).

For BIOS settings we only altered:

  • 50x CPU multiplier
  • 1.35V CPU Core Voltage
  • 1.90V CPU VCCIN (CPU Input voltage).
  • XMP 2.0 @ 2133 (for memory)

So for the entire overclock towards 5 Ghz we altered only 4 things in the BIOS. The XMP at 2133 MHz is relatively save and we like some extra memory bandwith.

Then we Sync all cores towards a multiplier of 50.

And in the last step we give two voltage registers a little extra, 1.35 Volts for the CPU Core and we set the CPU input voltage at 1.90V.

This overclock is 100% stable, passes Wprime 1M and added benefit is that the cores still clock down to 800 Mhz in idle mode, saving energy.
