Certification

So Cooler Master introduced the new Silent Pro Hybrid series with an 80+ Gold certification, tested by the 80PLUS organization (the people that certify and test efficiency). But what does such a certification entail?

Enermax Platimax

Well, we have bronze, silver, gold, and platinum certifications. A PSU that is certified “80 PLUS Gold” or “80 PLUS Platinum” is more efficient than a normal unit. Below you’ll find a table that shows what efficiency levels a PSU has to achieve at a given load to make the grade for a specific certification level.

Efficiency at 20% Load Efficiency at 50% Load Efficiency at 100% Load
80 PLUS 80% 80% 80%
80 PLUS Bronze 82% 85% 82%
80 PLUS Silver 85% 88% 85%
80 PLUS Gold 87% 90% 87%
80 PLUS Platinum 90% 92% 89%

The power supply is certified by the 80PLUS organization to deliver an 90% energy efficiency at 50% load (which equals with a Bronze label) and also comply with the ErP (Energy Related product) directive to ensure less than 1W of power is used in passive standby and off modes.

So the Silent Pro Hybrid derives its name from  the fact that the units can run completely fanless when the system is in idle mode or when the the tasks run don't demand high amounts of power. The PSU will continue to function in this fanless mode until the machine draws more than 200W of power, as, at this point, a safe mode will activate the fan and cool according to the level of the load.

As stated on the FrontPage, Cooler Master also ships the Silent Pro Hybrid power supply units with a fan controller that can be installed inside a free 5.25-inch drive bay. This direct connection between PSU and fan controller provides the user with immediate on-the-fly adjustment for the 135mm Super Silent Hydraulic Bearings power supply fan and up to 3 other system fans. Power and system fan speeds can be adjusted independently via two dials and you have the option of switching between an automatic and a manual mode.

CM Silent Pro hybrid

All the Cooler Master power supplies in this series are equipped with modular cables and feature a massive single 12V high-capacity rail, which is able to provide between 70A of current on this 850W Model. Good to know by the way is that the PSU comes with a fantastic six PCI-e 6+2 pins connectors for graphics cards.

Cooler Master is releasing the series with three models, 850W, 1050W, and 1300W models and should already be available for purchase as we speak. Pricing for the new PSUs has been set at $199.99 (€150), $249.99 (€187), and $299.99 (€225), respectively. Cooler Master is covering the product with a very decent 5 year warranty.
