Club3D MST HUB mini review - CluB3D DisplayPort 1.2 MST hub

For a long time now AMD has been chatting about releasing an MST hub for graphics cards. Basically it is a product that will take one DP connection, and then can split three the signal to three full HD (1080p60) links. This is an uber small one page review as Club3D just released such a product. Spending just a small news item on it didn't feel right, as this is pretty interesting technology.

So Display port connections have a lot of extra bandwidth, in fact per connector you could drive up-to three monitors, so if you use both DP 1.2+ connectors, up-to 6 monitors could be supported on any AMD graphics card. Connecting six monitors to two display port connectors will require an external breakout-box or monitors that support daisy chain (very expensive). The external breakout-box is an MST HUB (Multi Stream Transport). Once connected

Of course you can configure Eyefinity as you please, through multiple monitors per DP connector, or one at a time with the help of the DVI connectors.

Radeon HD 6850 and 6870

DisplayPort can support six monitors per two connectors, but will require a breakout box or daisy chain compatible monitors.

The primary feature for any MST is its ability to split a 4K image into 2K monitors. The reason why this is interesting is because the hub enables the user to plug four-times as many monitors as they have DisplayPort 1.2 sockets on their GPU. Take a profession card like the W600, for instance, it has 6 DisplayPort 1.2 plugs which enable it to drive 24 separate monitors from a single-slot card.

Club3D is now offering these kits.Basically you'll receive the MST hub to which you can connect three monitors. Included are a power adapter and a DVI and HDMI splitter as well. DisplayPortTM 1.2 monitors. Non DisplayPort outputs, such as VGA, DVI or HDMI, the Club 3D MST hub is DP++ and can actively convert the DisplayPort signal to the other types of display interface signals. This product is compatible to all graphics cards with DisplayPort outputs and the AMD Radeon HD 5000, 6000 and 7000 series. These hubs will not be cheap though, you may expect a retail price of 125 to 150 EUR as it looks right now. Availability will be in the upcoming weeks.

Ah and for consumers ... this basically is the monster you could create, think newer model LCD screens with thin Bezels though ! ;)
