6 - Performance results

Time to show you some performance results. We start at the top of our test resolution, 2560x1600 which is GPU limited and then move onwards up-to 1280x1024 which is more CPU limited.

Call of Duty World at War PC VGA performance

2560x1600 is always the best resolution to check out RAW GPU performance. The Radeon HD 4870 X2 is pushing really sweet numbers, it's however overtaken by a GTX 260 in SLI.

Anything above a Radeon 4870 512MB will allow you to play the game pretty well at this resolution. Since we measure at the most heavy on the GPU level, the rest of the levels you could add another 20% performance to. But the reality is .. how many of you actually have a 30" Monitor, right?

The 1920x1200 resolution is a little more down to earth really, and we have a surprising number one. Look at that GeForce 9800 GX2, it couldn't shine in 2560x1600 because it was a little memory limited with 512MB per GPU. It does however has an intense amount of shader processors available in certain titles, and that does show. COD WaW is such a title, and the GX2 loves it. On top of the list however are the two SLI configurations.

Once I can find the time i'll try and include two 4870 X2's in CrossfireX as well.

Noteworthy, the Radeon HD 4870 X2 at 59 FPS. These cards can now be purchased for slightly more than 400 EUR. When we look at the lower half of the scope we see that anything from a GeForce 9600 GT and upwards becomes playable, even with all eye-candy enabled and 4xAA. And from here on things thus will only get better.
