The Story Prologue

The prologue

Battlefield Hardline is a 2015 first-person shooter video game developed by Visceral Games in collaboration with EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts. Unlike the previous games in the series, Hardline focuses on crime/heist/policing elements instead of military warfare. Miami is embroiled in a drug war and Officer Nick Mendoza (Nicholas Gonzalez) has just made detective. Alongside his partner, veteran detective Khai Minh Dao (Kelly Hu)[citation needed], he follows the drug supply chain from the streets to the source. In a series of increasingly off-the-books cases the two detectives come to realize that power and corruption can affect both sides of the law

The Plot

In 2012, Nicholas "Nick" Mendoza, the newest addition to Miami's Vice squad, is performing a drug bust at a Miami hotel with his new partner Detective Stoddard (Travis Willingham). The two officers locate the apartment where the drug deal is occurring and breach it, finding a group of four armed men at a table. The men surrender to Mendoza and Stoddard, and Mendoza proceeds to arrest two of criminals at the table while Stoddard keeps his weapon trained on the others. At this point, a woman bursts out of the kitchen of the apartment with an 870P Magnum, shouting at Mendoza and Stoddard and then opens fire on the officers. The remaining two criminals grab their weapons off of the table and shoot back at Mendoza and Stoddard as well. After a brief firefight, they manage to take down the three criminals. As Mendoza begins collecting evidence from the woman's body, the sixth suspect, Shea Dorsett, walks into the scene. Seeing the officers and his dead accomplices, Dorsett immediately attempts to flee the hotel, and Mendoza and Stoddard give chase. Following him outside, the two see Dorsett get into his car and drive off. Mendoza and Stoddard quickly get into their Police Interceptor and get back on Dorsett's tail. With Mendoza behind the wheel, the duo pursue Dorsett through Miami's streets as he attempts to lose them in traffic and a variety of other obstacles. Eventually, back-up arrives in the form of more Police cruisers, who cut off Dorsett and force him to make a left turn. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Stoddard leans out of the window and shoots out one of Dorsett's tires and causes the car to crash. Mendoza exits the Interceptor and begins arresting Dorsett, who begins to resist as he is reading his rights. Mendoza replies by saying he "must've heard this before", and then slams Dorsett's head into the roof of the car and finishes apprehending him.

The next day, Captain Julian Dawes (Benito Martinez) partners Nick with Detective Khai Minh Dao. The two are given a new assignment to locate a man named Tyson Latchford (Adam J. Harrington). Nick and Khai drive through a Miami neighborhood and stop near the projects to begin looking for Tyson. In order to avoid alerting the locals in the area, the two continue into the projects on foot. They decide to find one of Tyson crew, Tap (David DeSantos) with the detective wiring him to identify Tyson. Things spiral-out of control with an unknown rival group shooting and killing all of Tyson's crew, in which Khai is shot in the shoulder. The S.W.A.T team arrives and bring Tyson into custody and take Khai to the hospital. Some weeks later, Khai is still recovering from their last assignment, but against her doctor advice, joins Nick in his next assignment. Dawes order Nick and Khai begin looking for who has been attacking the local underground drug trade, led by Leonardo "Leo" Raymond.
