The heat-spreader is designed to enhance heat dissipation allowing better tweaks and overclocks, albeit does anyone really still OC their memory these days? I mean that's what you purchase more expensive XMP memory for right?, as the tweaking is already done for you. This is not low profile memory though. Keep that in mind especially with heatpipe coolers and height positioning in mind. 
 

Thanks to that metal bar the memory is very sturdy and can be inserted into the DIMM slots with ease. And yeah, I like it all black.  

So yes, I have seated this memory on both a Z370 in dual-channel. X99/X299 is also supported so you can go quad-channel just as well. That's pretty much how that looks like with four DIMMs. 

  
Setting up (configuring) this memory is very easy, in the BIOS just flick the XMP 2.0 compatible profile, and you'll be up and running at advertised speeds. The memory itself is optimized for the Intel X99/Z170/Z270/Z370/Z390 platform with corresponding Skylake/ Kaby lake/Coffee lake architecture series processors. We'll be testing the kit on an AMD Ryzen platform as well to check out compatibility.
