AURA Lighting Control and RGB Strip Headers

RGB LIGHTING CONTROL

We'll start off the review with the x-factor. One of the main features of the Formula is the integration of an advanced software controllable RGB lighting system. We've seen this implemented by MSI, ASUS now as well is offering it. Combined with the dark looks of the Formula the RGB system works out really well.

First I like to request you watch the video - it demos what the RGB LED system can do.

Asus has integrated some see-though panels in the front of the shielding, these segments get illuminated by the integrated Aura RBG LEDs.

With the help of Aura Aura lighting control software you can manage and control the RGB colors and a set of animations.
Asus has also included an extra 4-pin header so you can add another LED strip to your build and control it with the same software. You get six different lighting schemes:

  • Static
  • Breathing
  • Strobing
  • Color Cycle
  • Music effect (pulses to beats)
  • CPU temperature

ASUS makes use of  28 integrated LEDs to shine through and illuminate key parts of the board — including the MOSFET heatsink cover, PCIe area and the striking ROG logo on the PCH cover. And yeah ... it does look good.

You can also connect an RGB light-strip, just slide standard 12V RGB strips onto the 4-pin Aura RGB-strip header, then weave your lighting any way you like. Customize static, strobing and pulsating effects, or have the colors change in time with music or indicate CPU temperature. Make note of this though, the Aura RGB-strip header supports standard 5050 RGB LED strips with a maximum power rating of 2A (12V). For maximum brightness, strip length should not exceed 2m.
