We start with the simple stuff -- the packaging, so you know what to look for in the stores. The PSU inside is packaged nicely and protected in a carton. The ROG THOR will be quite recognizable in the stores to find alright.
The power supply and cables all come in a carton packaging protected with soft foam materials. The PSU is well protected and the modular (mostly sleeved) cables can be found in a separate compartment as well.
The first impression, it's a beast alright. After unpacking, not a dent, scratch or smudge was on the unit. I like it, the PSU breathes this stylish matte dark finish with a black theme. The PSU is ready for all current CPU & GPU generations (though that depends on the wattage model of your choice) and offers high capacity on two +12V rails (depending on the model). Note that the PSU is 100% modular as you can see from the photo above, that includes the ATX power cable as well as the CPU power feeds.
Next, to all cabling (and there is quite a bit of it, you will also receive screws, tie-wraps and a manual. An extra little pouch gives some extra goodies like ROG badge, but also cable ties and some cable combs.
- 1 x 20+4 main power connector.
- 2 x CPU Cables
- 6 x PCIe cables.
- 3 x SATA Strip cables.
- 1 x SATA to peripheral cable.
- 1 X Floppy Disk Adaptor
- 2 x Addressable RGB cables.
ASUS ROG Thor 1000W Platinum II (1000W PSU) review
Today we’re putting the new Asus ROG THOR 1000W PLATINUM II power supply on our test bench. The company is not so much known from their PSUs (as they’re rather associated with the motherboards, graphic cards, monitors, or peripherals). Still, we had a chance to check the first Thor at the end of 2018, when the 1200W version was reviewed (priced 329 EUR/USD), earning the “Best Hardware” award. Will the new version be as successful?
