Photo overview
What is comforting to the eye is that the screen is matte dark, there is very little refraction and, although the photo doesn't show it, this is a big and wide screen alright. The monitor allows the stand to be easily detached. The monitor uses a curved 34” AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) panel from LG at 60 Hz (default), it however can be 'overclocked' up to 100 Hz on this model. The monitor has a 3440 x 1440 resolution (21:9 aspect ratio), 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178/178° horizontal/vertical viewing angles.
Very stylish is the design with a proper curve (3800R), the bezels to the left and right are not too thick. A basic tilt adjustment is offered by the stand so you can position it at a vertical angle and that's it. The monitor runs at 60 Hz, 75 Hz, or 100 Hz with G-Sync. BTW in the notes for the monitor there's this line; "for smoother gameplay, G-Sync requires a GeForce GTX 980Ti and above to overclock the refresh rate up to 100Hz." Keep that in mind okay? We found a GeForce GTX 980 to be doing the job perfectly fine as well.
The stand only allows you to place the monitor in landscape mode. Menu and power controls are pressable and there is a joystick (‘JOG’ button) for navigation. if you look below the stand, there’s a small projector that projects the red ROG logo onto the your desk, which can of course be disabled if you don’t like that sort of thing.
Once I aim the screen at a studio lamp you can see that it is a tiny bit reflective, this I am afraid comes with IPS screens. In a massively lit room you could see a bit of reflectivity. I've seen way worse on many monitors, this is just fine as far as I am concerned. The black image shown on the screen hides the dual-bezel design, a very thin outer border in addition to a thicker panel border. We'll show you it later on with a photo, but it's kind of a miss really.
