The Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 144Hz Monitor

So we received a G-Sync capable monitor last week. It is based on the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q (144Hz). Let me first state that the model we received is a final retail sample.

Gamers have been bothered by what screen to purchase, 1080P is the norm, but the gaming aficionado's REALLY like WHQD at its lovely 2560x1440 monitor resolution. The WHQD screens mostly all have a IPS, PLS or VA-panel. With the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q they get a bit of the best of both worlds really, higher-resolutions (WHQD) with the fast and low latency performance of TN and armed with Nvidia GSYNC. A smart move from ASUS.

A quick note, if you like to pursue Gsync then you need a minimum of an Nvidia GTX650Ti Boost !  However if you are purchasing this 800 EURO monitor, we do assume you got the proper gear already. The Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 144hz G-Sync Monitor arrives in a large, full colour box that measures 756mm x 456mm x 300mm (WxHxD) and weighs give or take 10.5KG.

So a TN screen might not be our favorite type of panel, but it is a fast little fracker. One nice advantage is that the monitor is 144 Hz capable, and as such we will test it at that (now maximum dynamic) refresh rate.

The ASUS monitor features a 144Hz rapid refresh rate for pretty darn smooth action and comes with a blazingly fast 1ms response time. This monitor only has a DisplayPort (1.2) connection. So there is no HDMI or DVI connectivity.

ROG Swift PG278Q gaming monitor is available in Taiwan, as well as the Asia Pacific and European markets as we speak for US$799 / 799 EURO, a price that will vary by region. The pricing is high though, the Swift PG278Q has an expensive FPGA GSync module, and quite frankly ... they are the only brand selling it. But due to high demand and this monopolized position, we already have seen price topping a 1000 EURO for this monitor. Will it be worth that kind of money ?
