ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ Monitor review - Photo overview

The monitor has a handy joystick to navigate relatively quickly through the OSD settings, allowing users to switch display parameters with a flick of a finger, including multiple color adjustments. A lot can be tweaked to your preference.  it is accompanied by two buttons, the joystick itself can be 'pushed' as well. This all is located at the middle bottom side of the panel.

Quality control issues - the panel sits inside a plastic-like bezel, an outer housing you could call it. The tolerances between the panel and bezel is roughly 1mm, and it is sloppy to look at. That easily is going to hold dust and what now, it will become very hard to clean. The above photo shows the top side panel dead center in the middle.

The wide beast has decent connections, two HDMI 2.0 and one display port 1.2 and a set of USB 3.0 connectors leading from a HUB connection. The screen does have two 5W built-in speakers.

A horrible photo, but there is the Displayport connector as well as headphone and power connectors.

The display comes with a separated power adapter/brick, included in the packaging are an HDMI and DP cable, USB 3.0 cable, manual and smaller ROG kit like a pouch and welcome card.

VA is pretty good if you sit straight in front of it. Move further to one side as angled views remain good and, yeah, this is a pretty good screen to look at alright, the curve works great for gaming. For desktop stuff like browsing and spreadsheets etc, not so much as that curve gets annoying.

You can move your head up/down/left/right and you will see a wide view-port without too much distortion. Viewing angles are rated at 178°(H)/178°(V), more on that later though, but yeah this one is as good as it gets.
