The Monitor
We received this monitor about two weeks week ago. Today, you can find it in retail stores for about 1000 EUR/USD, which is a lot of money. Well, let's open the box. The ASUS ROG monitor has a design that looks very similar to the other ROG monitors.
The monitor boasts a unique ROG design, featuring a robust, angular tripod-style stand crafted from dark grey coated metal. At the front, distinct Aura RGB lighting accents can be observed, though they're red rather than true RGB. These include red shapes on the base and a red down-firing projector beneath it.
The glossy black front face of the central protrusion on the bottom bezel also houses some of the monitor's electronics, allowing for a slimmer screen profile. The bezels feature a dual-stage design on all sides, a sleek panel border flush with the screen's surface, and a rigid outer component. The top and side bezels are especially thin, measuring about 7mm (0.28 inches).
An additional slim, active area between the panel border and the image is present, which allows the entire image to shift if the " Screen Move " feature is enabled periodically. This active area is only a few millimetres thick. As expected, the primary focal point from the front is the screen itself, which employs a medium or relatively light matte anti-glare surface.
Simple screws secure the stand at the back of the display, and at monitor side you just pop in that stand. This is the only installation required for this display. Included are DP, HDMI, and power cables, as well as a manual and other odds and ends. On the bottom of the screen, there is a functional 5-way navigation joystick for adjusting settings and the OSD. The monitor has a sturdy and adaptable stand that can adjust up to 100mm in height, pivot 90°, swivel +/- 25°, tilt -5°/20°, and is compatible with VESA mounts of 100x100mm (adapter included).
Its screen has a light anti-glare coating that effectively removes reflections without compromising the image quality. In terms of build quality, the monitor is well constructed. Although the dense plastic panels can creak a bit under pressure, they are sturdy, with minimal flex on the back and bezels. The stand is particularly sturdy and keeps the monitor securely in place. It is adjustable for height, tilt, and swivel, and even rotates 90 degrees for use in portrait orientation, which is good for ergonomics. However, the stand is relatively deep, which could result in the monitor being closer to the user than desired.
